It can happen to the new busser on their first shift or the seasoned server, who's been delighting their guests for years. No matter what position you're in, FOH or BOH, we can ALL fall into the Common Sense Trap, even those of us with years of experience in the restaurant industry.

We fall into this trap when we've heard something repeated so often that we begin to tune out OR, we know it and just assume everyone else knows it too, because . . . you know . . . it's common sense. Whether we are talking about others or ourselves: Common sense is often not common practice.
