Hospitality/Culinary Instructor Membership

RestaurantOwner.com is committed to educating and inspiring independent restaurant owners to build better restaurants, better businesses, and better lives. We do so by providing insights, tools, and training to help improve the business, systems, and culture skills which we believe are essential for sustainable restaurant success.

This commitment extends to future restaurant owners as well. For this reason, we are teaming up with hospitality, restaurant management, and culinary institutions that share this commitment.

Our newly updated Hospitality/Restaurant Management membership plans have been designed to supplement the curriculum offered by the more than 300 hospitality and restaurant management career programs throughout the U.S.

Our Hospitality/Culinary Instructor Membership Plan is a 6-month complimentary membership for professors and instructors who teach students pursuing hospitality and restaurant management careers, or accredited culinary certifications.

We have assembled a collection of online courses, training videos, whitepapers, and downloadable templates to help students go beyond theoretical learning by using the same resources which have helped independent restaurant owners achieve their lifelong dreams of restaurant ownership.

As a participating member, instructors are *permitted to use and share these resources with students while in the classroom. Some of the ways for sharing include:

  • PDF copies of all whitepapers and articles can be printed, emailed, or hosted on a shared drive.
  • Training videos and webinars can be presented using a screencast either live or through online meetings.
  • Printed or PDF copies of our downloadable template forms and documents can be used to show students "how-to" examples.
  • Screenshots and excerpts from RO resources can be used within your PowerPoint or other presentations.
          * With proper citing and accreditation to RestaurantOwner.com

RestaurantOwner.com also offers 6-month, discounted student memberships. Like books and other supplies, instructors can require students to subscribe to this limited RO membership as part of their course curriculum. When doing so, instructor's membership remains complimentary (see details below).

Some of the benefits for requiring student membership include:

Instructor Testimonials

"Students don't want textbooks anymore – they want tools. That's why I have all my students sign up for RestaurantOwner.com instead of buying a textbook for my course in restaurant development. They especially like the videos that reinforce key concepts like prime cost and labor budgeting, and of course, the business planning and financial templates are a huge to help them as they develop their restaurant ideas for class.

What's great is how many of those students maintain their memberships to RestaurantOwner.com after they graduate. It has really useful material on just about everything they need to get their real-life restaurants open and to operate them profitably. That's why I like to create content for the site -- it's a great learning tool for anyone who wants to become a successful restaurateur."

Stephani Robson, Senior Lecturer Emerita
Cornell University

"University hospitality management education is as much about application as theory. I supplement my course materials with articles, videos, and more on RestaurantOwner.com so that my students can learn how to put restaurant business and management best practices into action.

RestaurantOwner.com content on restaurant accounting, finance, HR, marketing, and operations helps students conceptualize and apply key concepts in these areas better than any resource available."

H.G. Parsa, Barron Hilton Professor of Lodging Management
Daniel's College of Business, University of Denver
Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management, Endowed Chair

"RestaurantOwner.com's mission is to educate independent owners and operators on restaurant business best practices in clear and practical terms and to provide systems and tools to help their managers and staff become more effective and satisfied team members.

I believe serving as editor of the magazine has made me a more effective university business school professor, particularly with the growing student interest in entrepreneurship. I've used the site's content in the finance, HR, and law courses I've taught to help students make the leap from theory to relevant real-world application.

As an affordable online course supplement, RestaurantOwner.com can be a boon to any hospitality instructor's curriculum across all restaurant management subjects — accounting, finance, HR, law, marketing, and operations."

Barry Shuster, Clinical Associate Professor
North Carolina Central University School of Business
