Each fall some independent operators begin reviewing the accomplishments of their current year and start brainstorming the goals and objectives for the upcoming year. Many of us, however, tend to skip this process…we focus on the upcoming holidays and then seem surprised when another year has arrived!
Is what they say true, ‘Failing to plan is planning to fail’? Perhaps this is why I have compiled some of the best practices I have seen in numerous successful independent operators I have worked with over the years. Please join me as we discuss a simple process of annual planning, that includes obtainable objectives and manageable budgets, which will help set a direction that management and staff can utilize to stay focused!
Here are some key points we will cover:
- How annual plans become living documents and much more than simply a budget.
- The three key questions annual planning answers.
- How annual short-term strategies keep you in line with your restaurant’s mission, purpose, and long-term objectives.
- Why this annual process is important for your management and key staff.
- The three steps for successfully implementing your annual plan.
